Liverpool are eyeing a move for Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor after negotiations between Tottenham and the Premier League Champions stalled.
The lanky forward spent last season on loan at White Hart Lane and impressed, scoring 17 times and bringing out the best in Spurs’ talented midfield.
But the former Arsenal striker is paid a reported £170, 000 a week at the Etihad Stadium and is reluctant to take a pay cut. Spurs have a strict wage structure and the north London club are struggling to finalise a deal with the 28-year-old.
New Liverpool manager Brendan Rogers is an admirer of Adebayor the Anfield club are now ready to hijack Spurs’ deal for the African, who also spent a spell on loan at Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid.
Rogers wants to add firepower to his attack after the Reds slumped to an 8th placed finish last season and believes Adebayor will complement misfiring duo Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.
It is also understood that City are prepared to let Adebayor go for a cut price fee, provided they are not asked to cover any of the striker’s future wages.
