26 JUN.Michael Owen kutimkia klabu ya Al Shabab ya U.A.E


UAE-based side Al Shabab have claimed they are close to completing a deal for former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester United forward Michael Owen.

The 32-year-old is a free agent after being released by United last month and has been linked with a host of English clubs.

The horse racing enthusiast has insisted that he is still capable of playing in the Premier League but now looks on the verge of a dramatic transfer to the Middle East.

Al Shabab announced via twitter, “Michael Owen has been identified as a candidate to play for Shabab next season and we are in negotiations with his management team.

“The player’s agent is in Dubai to close the deal.”

Owen burst onto the scene as an 18-year-old with Liverpool and England, scoring a memorable goal for England against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup. He went on to score 158 league goals in nearly 300 appearances on Merseyside before joining Spanish giants Real Madrid in 2004.

The speedy striker was owen left on the bench for the La Liga side but still managed an impressive 16 league goals in his one season in the Spanish capital, before returning to the Premier League with Newcastle United.

Owen was blighted by severe injury problems since his return, and has managed just over 100 appearances in England’s premier division since 2005.

He has 89 caps for England, scoring 40 times
